OKKO is therefore back with the RectoPleXXX, from the new Black Box Series range. The RectoPleXXX is a high-gain distortion, mixing the bite of the best Plexi with the massive drive of the Rectifiers that have marked the history of hard-metal. The goal? A typically “amp-like” drive, as always with the German brand. Aesthetically, the pedal adopts a new, more compact, very light box. It benefits from the usual Level, Drive and Treble. And a Shape control which is in a way the fatal weapon of the RectoPleXXX.

With the RectoPleXXX, OKKO sends us very, very heavy. Here, we don't do lace! But beware, this does not prevent it from benefiting from great versatility in the genre, as we will see.
A Tom Anderson in SSH configuration and a Les Paul in hand, we stack on a clean channel with headroom in reserve. Let's not beat the bush, the RectoPleXXX has some in store, it's big 80-90's high-gain with tight bass and an extremely muscular low mid, which give it a formidable base (palm-mutes which impose , hello!) The top is open, articulated and precise, it slices, it hits hard without ever sounding "transo", with a little boomy side on the attack, highly addictive and always under control. Even with the gain at the bottom, and believe us, it sends, we keep a perfectly defined drive, compact, never fuzzy with a huge potato in reserve.
Where the Dominator is aimed at those looking for extreme distortion that would slice a mammoth in half, the RectoPleXXX does heavy-duty hard-metal, but retains great versatility in its action niche. Why and how? Shape. This knob allows you to adjust the midrange frequencies more or less drastically. We can therefore obtain a V equalization for a typically metal voicing, or go for something more open depending on the setting chosen. Shape allows you to transform this superb drive in a fraction of a second and OKKO has really integrated a superb tool to sculpt this one.

The OKKO RectoPleXXX is clearly a success. It competes head-on with the Friedman BE-OD, Diezel VH4 and other Suhr Eclipses. OKKO offers us a very optimized pedal, both in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio and the corrections and musicality of the on-board drive. To try urgently, it will be perfect for edgy rhythms or a pedal for a massive lead. We are fans!
